Lugbill Participates in U.S. Rule of Law Initiative in Myanmar
Ann Lugbill participated in the U.S. Rule of Law Initiative 6 day visit to Myanmar. As a part of the initiative, the Ohio State Bar Association and Minnesota Bar Associations delegation of 12 lawyers visited the country to meet with Burmese legal and business representatives.
Lugbill was also able to meet separately from the delegation with the "dean" of the law school of Mawlamyine University in Mon Province, Dr. Mi Khin Saw Aung. Because the 1988 anti-government rebellion in Mawlamyine was not centered at the University, but at a Buddhist Pagoda nearby, the Mawlamyine law faculty have been teaching students in the classroom--unlike law schools in Yangon and Mandalay, which were closed for most purposes for over 20 years.
The delegation was led by the president of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) and the past president of the Minnesota Bar Association. More information on the trip is available in the May/June 2014 issue of Ohio Lawyer.
