Mindy Holmes is a partner in our Washington, D.C. office.  She has represented labor unions for almost thirty years, joining Murphy Anderson as a partner in 2014 after beginning her career at O’Donnell, Schwartz & Anderson, P.C. as an associate and partner.  Throughout her career, her guiding principle has been to empower her clients with knowledge, confidence, and independence. 

Mindy has represented a major postal union her entire legal career, and has served as the union’s General Counsel since 2017.  In addition to postal labor work with involves both public and private sector labor laws and issues, Mindy has represented national, regional, and local unions across a variety of industries.  Her union practice runs the gamut of federal and state court matters, NLRB litigation, interest and rights arbitration, advising on governance and internal business matters, corporate and political compliance, and supporting her clients’ interests in legislation, policy-making, and member education.  Mindy led her postal client’s national contract interest arbitration case twice and has a winning record in two decades of national contract interpretation arbitrations.  Mindy also was counsel for several years to a national fee-for-service federal employee health benefits program carrier which gave her experience in healthcare law, contracts and insurance, and government contracting. 

Mindy is an active supporter of the union-side labor bar and has lent her expertise to civic and pro bono matters and organizations nationally and locally.  Among her professional leadership roles, she was a founding board member of the D.C. Employment Justice Center, served as a national co-chair of the AFL-CIO’s 2008 non-partisan voter protection program, was a member of the NYU Labor Center Advisory Board, was a member of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyer Alliance Board of Directors, chaired the ULA Diversity and Racial Justice Committee, and is an active supporter of the ULA’s Lawyers of Color Caucus and DOOR program.  Mindy was one of the original collaborators and creators of the award-winning D.C. Bar-Georgetown Law School Workplace Street Law project.  She has been active on D.C. Bar and American Bar Association committees, was a chapter editor of The Developing Labor Law, and is a member of the American Law Institute.

After graduating with honors from Georgetown University Law Center, Mindy clerked for the Honorable Robert I. Richter on D.C. Superior Court.
